Dale Earnhardt Jr. may be NASCAR’s biggest star, but not even that could help him land on the right side of this week’s Hot or Not.

Racing series around the world are feeling a growing hole in their wallets thanks to this ol’ economy, but that’s no matter for a group out of Charlotte, N.C., that’s looking to join up with pricey Formula 1.
The upstart — their taking “USF1” as their working team name — is aiming to have an American operation field two American drivers in F1 in the near future, and Tuesday, they discussed some drivers — including a pair of NASCAR names — they might interested in.
Some of those wheelmen (and a wheel lady, mind you) seem like logical targets, but the others? Well, not so much.

Richard Childress Racing had a less-than-memorable outing in Sunday’s Auto Club 500 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., with none of the organization’s four Sprint Cup cars finishing in the top 18.
You might think Jeff Gordon would approach this weekend’s Shelby 427 Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motors Speedway with a sense of dread. After all, the Hendrick Motorsports driver sustained one of the worst wrecks of his career there last year.

It’s quite easy to think that after the season’s first two races, Jeff Gordon‘s 2009 appears headed in one direction.
A direction, that is, that will lead to his four Sprint Cup championship trophies earning a fifth partner on Gordon’s mantle.
But lest we get caught up in the hype — or is it desire? — of seeing one of the sport’s icons rise back to the top before realizing that the No. 24′s disappointing 2008 started out in much the same fashion.
